Volunteers

Krewe of Barkus Volunteers For more information, Email robin@barkus.org

Our parade is only possible through the efforts of hundreds of volunteers who set up the park, man our booths and act as Krewe Marshalls in the parade. Shifts are available: 8am-12noon setup & check-in; 10-2pm booth manning; 1pm-5pm booth manning and krewe marshalls. If you can volunteer, please send your name, address, phone (day and evening), via email to info@barkus.org, put "VOLUNTEER" in the subject line. Make sure to tell us if you have any preferences or physical limitations, i.e. time of shift, walking, sitting, etc. Our volunteer coordinator will be in touch with you, and we will do our best to give you the job requested.

WE ARE VERY SORRY, but we ask that Volunteers do not bring their dogs while working the event. We are firm believers that if your pet is with you, even if leashed and well-behaved, they deserve your full attention. If you volunteer for us, we would like to have your full attention during your shift period. Every volunteer position is very important to the success of our event, and to the organizations the proceeds benefit.

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS Many area high schools now require students to complete a large number of community service hours by the time they are a junior. We would love for you - and your schoolmates - to help us with our parade, work merchandise booths, be a walk-around and keep Armstrong Park clean and free of litter during our Party at the Park, or be a Krewe Marshall and walk with the parade helping to keep order and the parade moving. Practically all positions require at least two people to operate, so enlist your best friend and have a ton of fun while you're at it.

We will require all minors, not accompanied by an adult, to check-in accompanied by their transporting adult, and when volunteer shift is finished, you will be required to stay on park property and check-out with the Park Volunteer Coordinator accompanied by the parent or adult guardian who is transporting you from the park. This is the only way we can be sure of your safe whereabouts at all times. A parent or adult guardian is welcome to stay on park property and enjoy the event during your volunteer shift, but must still check-out with Park Volunteer Coordinator when they are leaving the property with minors in their charge.

Some of the organizations that we benefit contact us during the year to obtain volunteers from us and we would love to be able to refer you to some very worthy organizations working for a very worthy cause - the rescue, shelter and adoption of homeless animals.
Also most of the organizations have a foster program and are always looking for temporary housing/shelter for homeless animals, particularly animals too young to spay/neuter, i.e. puppies and kittens. If this is something, your household would enjoy doing contact the organizations directly and tell them you got their name from the Barkus website.
