The next Mystic Krewe of Barkus Parade is Sunday, February 23rd, 2025

Queen Ruthie Sable, Her Majesty XXXII

Queen Ruthie Sable is a Foxhound-Dalmation mix who identifies as a noun but lives fully at a verb energy level. She is the adopted daughter of Dr. Craig and Barb Sable of New Orleans, Louisiana by way of the Washington D.C. area. Her journey was a road many previous Barkus Queens have traveled, although Queen Ruthie knows about her bio mom and her birth, unlike most homeless mystery breeds. Her unwed and pregnant mother was found roaming on the side of the road and rescued, enabling her to give birth in the safety of a veterinarian’s clinic. Queen Ruthie is grateful that her bio mom had the courage to trust her two-legged saviors who enabled her mom and newborns to survive.

After becoming a member of the Sable family, Queen Ruthie was catapulted into a life of opportunity. She attended the prestigious Your Dog’s Friend School in Maryland where she graduated with high honors after one year of kindergarten level studies. She clearly has proven academic abilities, but her social skills and poise make her shine.

Queen Ruthie has a photogenic polish accentuated by her baby doe eyes and stunning two-tone leopard spotted fur coat. She is naturally regal and makes lounging in a single ray of sunshine look like a work of art. She is noble even when impatiently waiting for a hug, extra cute when sleeping with crossed paws and a super fun festive friend when going to a parade wearing light up beads.

Pondering this twist of fate leading her to become the Queen of Barkus, she said “The truth is that I was a few days away from being born roadside in a ditch. Escaping that doom was miraculous and now as the highest Royal canine on the planet, I can reign with a voice for other dogs struggling to find a helping hand.”

Queen Ruthie accepts this responsibility with gratefulness, and she's preparing for her busy appearance schedule that includes a happy hour fundraiser at Dat Dog, the Coronation Ball at the Windsor Court Hotel and the much-anticipated lunch at Galatoire's with her King. Her closet is packed to the brim with outfits for every occasion designed with this year’s high couture theme in mind.

Queen Ruthie's confidence is high, and she is excited to be living out every dog’s dream as the Canine Queen of Carnival. With a respectful nod to Rex, she has added "If Ever I Cease to Love" to the top of her Spotify playlist.

Let us toast to the hope and happiness she brings to the throne, Her Majesty XXXII, Queen Ruthie Sable.
