Bentley Burton Jurgens Barkus King XXXI
Bea Broussard Barkus Queen XXXI
The reigning monarchs for 2024, King Bentley Jurgens and Queen Bea Broussard will assume the new titles of Emeritus King and Queen as the Mystic Krewe of Barkus ushers in a new carnival season and prepares to announce the King and Queen for 2025.
From his glorious ride in our last parade, King Bentley Burton Jurgens led the krewe decked out in full Barbie Bull Dog confidence next to his parents, Jack and Linda Jurgens, who embodied the spirit of our pawty-in-pink theme with heart-shaped sunglasses, sweatbands and a full length faux-fur-coat that was more than Ken-ough.
His Majesty’s journey from puppyhood to the highest royal title in the land was written in the stars that twinkle far beyond his Uptown New Orleans home. As he transitions to King Emeritus, his unconditional love for his humans remains a steadfast staple, and his joyful nature remains contagious. He is pondering parlaying his handsomeness into a modeling career. What is certain is that King Bentley will be dedicating his energy to supporting any four-legged brethren who need his help.
Her Majesty, the splendid Queen Bea Broussard, reigned as a natural monarch with her stunning Cavalier King Charles Spaniel beauty. As she made her way through the streets of the French Quarter in her custom-designed bow-dazzled crown, Queen Bar-Bea was the quintessential picture of a rescue to royalty dream come true with the days of her former loveless caged life in a rural Missouri puppy mill a forgotten memory.
Miraculously, Queen Bea was rescued by The Cavalier Rescue and found her forever family with Brian and Aimee Broussard of Baton Rouge, who wholeheartedly supported her journey to become the dog she was meant to be while also rewriting her once sad story. Though her reign will soon conclude, “Bea’s Blanket Brigade,” will continue to provide the platform in which she blankets canines with kindness while upholding her mission to pay it forward.
The light both Royals radiate reflects the noblesse that befits the King and Queen of Barkus. We are grateful for the pawsitivity they brought to the thousands of spectators who came to revel in the greatest canine celebration on Earth.
As King and Queen Emeritus, they can now join other past sovereigns as Returning Royalty in perpetuity. Their roles in the Barkus story and Mardi Gras history will be forever.
