Parade rescheduled for Sunday, March 9, 2025

Duchess Apple Skaggs

Apple is ready for her third Barkus parade, at least, that’s what she allows us to call her. “Jonagold” is a bossy little lady that the good people at Zeus’ Rescues gave a second chance. Her humans had to simplify her name from Jonagold, a type of apple, to just “Apple”, because Jonagold was too clumsy to yell as she would look for gaps under the fence to jailbreak. She was initially thought of as schnauzer mix, but DNA testing has given insights that she is half Poodle, half Boston Terrier, and all wild. She is ‘on’ from sunrise to sunset. As legend has it, Apple originally hails from Terrebonne Parish, where she was marked for euthanasia for being “too aggressive”. Good thing, because as crazy as she can be, she’s full of love and cuddles.

She also has an interesting mix of quirks:

  • Dislikes: Opossums, plastic grocery bags, any dog on the other side of the fence.
  • Likes: aggressively plays with her half cattle dog brother (Andy), barking at her humans when they talk on the phone, and assaulting a spraying garden hose.
  • Strong likes: Cat treats hidden by the cat in the litter box.

“Apps” proves every day that all dogs are great and deserve a loving home. If you are on the fence about adopting a dog, consider this story and give a dog a second chance.
