New Orleans, LA — The Mystic Krewe of Barkus proudly announces its First Dog of New Orleans, Nacho Moreno, who will also reign this year as the krewe’s Celebrity Grand Marshal. With paws of pride, unmistakable charm, and a lifelong connection to Barkus, Nacho is ready to lead the parade in true New Orleans style.
Nacho, the beloved French Bulldog son of Mayor Helena Moreno and First Man Chris Meeks, is no stranger to Barkus royalty. Over the years, he has served the krewe in numerous royal roles, including Duke, Grand Duke, Earl, and Grand Marshal, earning admiration from parade‑goers and fellow krewe members alike. Fans may fondly remember his unforgettable appearance during the “Bark to the Future” themed parade, when he rode proudly in his own life‑size DeLorean float built by his dad.
Now, as First Dog of New Orleans and Celebrity Grand Marshal, Nacho is expanding his platform to promote positivity, balance, and wellness — starting with his passion for dog yoga. A devoted practitioner, Nacho credits yoga with keeping both his body and mind centered, and his mom’s favorite shoes intact. He is currently developing Nacho’s Yoga for NOLA Dogs, a collection of photos and diagrams showcasing adaptive techniques designed to spread good energy throughout the canine community.
“Being First Dog isn’t just about riding in parades and catching beads,” said Nacho Moreno. “It’s about spreading good vibes, lifting up dogs across our city, and reminding everyone that a little balance, a lot of love, and the occasional belly rub can change the world.”
Nacho also plans to champion Barkus’ enduring message of “change for good.” As First Dog, he hopes to represent dogs throughout New Orleans — celebrating those with loving homes while giving voice and visibility to those still searching for one.
